The prime function of Westech is to provide a forum for the demonstration of the tried and proven and the more recent advancements in rural technology.

Although not the biggest field day, Westech does comprise the largest assortment of equipment, product and information specific to extensive grazing industries and remote area living ever assembled on the one site in Queensland. This ensures that all Field Day visitors have a strong interest in a majority of the displays rather than just a few, as is often the case with the more diverse events of this type.

The concept of Westech being held every three years allows for advances in rural technology to occur and maintains ongoing interest and participation in a majority of displays by exhibitors and interested visitors. Westech is regarded by graziers as a venue for acquiring product and equipment and important sources of information to assist them in managing their properties better and more productively.

Westech in 2005 attracted 302 exhibitors and around 6000 visitors.
